Winter 2006

In the depths of mid-winter 2006, I took these photos while on the way to a Committee meeting at Llanfair. A surprising amount of work takes place during the closed season, including the track replacement in progress on Castle bank, just to the east of the station.

Raven Square normally sees no passenger trains between the end of October and the start of the following season, just before Easter. The top right photo shows the 'join' between the restored station building from Eardisley, and the new (in 1992) toilet building. The signal box has never been an award winner, but served its purpose from reopening in 1981 until the opening of the new station buildings in 1992. Removal is likely in the longer term, but probably not until the Llanfair development plan has been completed, which in turn depends on substantial funds being donated.
