Sir Drefaldwyn -

No. 10 (699.01)

No.10 arrived at the W&L in 1970, and entered service almost immediately. It was withdrawn in 2000, and after a long period in storage the major overhaul is nearing completion in the Llanfair workshops.

These photos show progress over the last few years - No.10 is expected to re-enter service in 2022.

No.1 Earl, returned to Llanfair and re-entered service in 2021, after rebuilding at the Vale of Rhiedol workshops at Aberystwyth.

The final photo shows No. 6 Monarch. This loco was only operational on the W&L for a short period in the mid-1970s, and was generally found to be unsuitable for the steep and varying gradients of the W&L. It left for the Festiniog Railway, and after a long period there, partially dismantled, it returned to the W&L. It has been cosmetically restored, but is unlikely to operate again. It can be seen in the Raven Square display shed, adjacent to the car park.
